inventory

in-vent(come)-ory

n. [A detailed, itemized list, report, or record of things in one's possession, especially a periodic survey of all goods and materials in stock.]

[To make an itemized report or record of]

字源:from L. inventus, pp. of invenire "to find" (see invention). The verb is first recorded 1601.

那為什麼inventory--存貨清單,跟find有關係呢,因為它的概念是"a list of what is found"而來的。

ps.2

invent       v.發明

inventive   a.

census:population=inventory:merchandise

概念上 converse = inverse = reverse [opposite or contrary in direction]

所以obverse的意象就是turn toward to you,「轉向你」是也。

這邊的字首re-作back解釋,意像是turn back to you,

ps.

vertebrate n.

ps. invest & investigate

字構為in-vestige(遺蹟;殘餘)-ate,
