那差別在哪裡呢?我們先從obverse講起好了,

這邊ob的字首指的是toward,

所以obverse的意象就是turn toward to you,「轉向你」是也。

什麼東東會轉向你呢?在古代的邏輯中就是"正面"

比方說人兩兩相對者看,不就是另外一個人的"正面"轉向你嗎。

所以obverse指的就是正面,ex.銅幣的正面,or說正面者。

(再來,它也可以指某opinion, idea的對立面...就是因為這樣使這個複雜了許多,這樣一來,會出現obverse = reverse的錯覺,如果這兩個字都當成opposite arguement的話, 你可以 想成,obverse像是楚漢相爭,以河為界,而reverse像是光與影,有光的背後就是影子。 ...建議把下面的敘述全部看完,再來看這個括弧的內容 )

 

那跟obverse相反的是什麼,就是reverse了。

這邊的字首re-作back解釋,意像是turn back to you,

所以reverse可以指銅幣的反面

 

接著我們談inverse,它指的up side down的轉法。

但要注意它用在比較抽象上的。

比方說ratio的 inverse,或者是數學上function 的inverse,ex. tan -1 (x)

 

最後是converse,它比較多用在理論theroem, 命題proposition上的相反。

比方說宇宙最後會收縮的 converse theroem就是「宇宙最後不會收縮 or..」

(同時也可以說是 reverse theroem的唷,其實外國人不太會分別..)

但別忘記唷,converse也有「談話」的字義唷!
